Use A Tube Of Cold Asphalt Patch To Repair Cracks In The Asphalt Driveway On Your Property

Cracks often appear in asphalt pavement that is exposed to moist, humid conditions for extended periods of time. If portions of the asphalt driveway on your property have visible cracks, repair them with a tube of cold asphalt patch by completing the following directions. Once the driveway has been repaired, add a coat of sealer to its entire surface to keep it protected from damage in the future.

Supplies Needed

  • broom
  • industrial-strength detergent
  • water hose
  • bucket
  • scrub brush with stiff bristles
  • tube of cold asphalt patch
  • caulk gun
  • putty knife
  • tarps
  • bucket of asphalt sealer
  • paint roller and frame
  • paint roller extension pole

Clean The Driveway's Surface And Eliminate Stains

Sweep the entire driveway's surface, paying close attention to the areas that are cracked so that loose pieces of asphalt are eliminated. Make a cleaning solution to remove stains from the asphalt by filling a bucket with water and adding a small amount of industrial-strength detergent to it. Eliminate stains with the cleaning solution and a scrub brush that has stiff bristles. Rinse the driveway's surface with a strong stream of water and wait for the asphalt to dry all the way.

Fill The Cracks

Insert a tube of cold asphalt patch into a caulk gun. Place the tip of the gun into each crack and squeeze the gun's trigger to dispense the patch. Fill all of the cracks as evenly as possible. Smooth out the patch with a putty knife so that each repaired area's surface appears uniform with the portions of the driveway that are not damaged. Wait for the patch to harden. Test the firmness of each repaired area after several hours to ensure that this has occurred.

Seal The Driveway

Cover the ground that is adjacent to your property's driveway with tarps so that the sealer does not accidentally spill onto any portions of it. Pour a bucket of asphalt sealer into a paint tray. Use a paint roller to apply an even coat of sealer across the driveway in straight lines. Begin in one of the driveway's corners and spread the sealer across the length of it. Continue adding the sealer across the entire driveway's surface until it is evenly coated.

Wait a day or two for the sealer to dry. Once this has occurred, the driveway will be protected whenever the weather conditions are moist or humid. The sealer will last for several years as long as you keep your driveway's surface maintained. If the sealer appears to be worn in any areas in the future, add a new coat across the entire driveway to continue to provide the asphalt with protection.
